Friday 15th May 2026

Minutes of the 28th Annual General Meeting held at the Village Hall Trearddur Bay 

The meeting opened at 10.30 am, and the Chair welcomed 56 members

Fire evacuation instructions

Alan Boutall, referring to a previous fire drill, reminded everyone how important it is to evacuate as quickly as possible using the nearest exit and assemble on the grass opposite the front of the hall. The register must be taken and everyone accounted for.

Chair’s report

Denise Giorgi thanked everyone for their support and hard work and said she was pleased to serve such a friendly group and reminded us of the Motto – Learn, Laugh and Live.  Rob and Tricia were mentioned with grateful thanks for all their hard work over the years.  We miss their expertise, friendship and love.

Standing down this year - Gillian Slinn as Membership Secretary but staying on the committee we extend to her grateful thanks for doing an excellent job over many years.  Also, many long serving members are standing down – Rob Phillips, Bill Hulme, Mavis Allitt and Rachel Johnson.

We are hoping to install the Beacon System which will mean we can pay subscriptions online and many other ways that will make life easier for secretaries and members.

Mike Tomlinson has extensively researched the Beacon system and feels that it will work well for this u3a. There were no negative comments from other u3as who already use the system.

The Chair gave a vote of thanks for all the Group leaders, those who help every week and also Tim O’Brien and Allan Norris for running the technology so smoothly.  Peter Wilson, who looks after the website was also mentioned with thanks.

Treasurer’s report

The rent for the Village Hall has increased from £7 to £10 for the main hall and from £5 to £7 for the Penrhos room.

Possible increase of payments to speakers was accepted.

There was a vote to subsidise trips and increase the membership subscription from £6 to £10. It was carried unanimously

Thanks were given to Huw Grey Morris for auditing our accounts. (we are still using cash and cheques as payments).

Membership Secretary’s report

We have 160 members with an average of 40% attendance at meetings

Social Secretary’s report

Gloria Lynas as temporary Social Secretary has volunteered to accept the role if elected.  She has organised 3 successful events over the year all including entertainment.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Denise Giorgi, Alan Boutall, Tony Porter, Margaret Felton, Allan Norris, Tim O’Brien have agreed to stay in post for another year.

Gloria Lynas will continue as group Coordinator.

Diane Pittam was Proposed by Gillian Slinn and seconded by Aneira Levitt to take up the office of Membership Secretary and was elected unanimously.

Gloria Lynas was proposed by June Olak and seconded by Richard Olak for Social Secretary and duly elected unanimously.

Gillian Slinn was proposed by Mavis Allitt and seconded by Helen Schaller to stay on the committee and elected unanimously.

Mike Tomlinson was proposed by Chrissie Mead, seconded by Nesta Graham and elected unanimously.

Rachel Hawken was proposed by Denise Giorgi, seconded by Ann Williams to join the Committee and was unanimously elected.

Alan Boutall gave a vote of thanks for the hard work Denise Giorgi has accomplished as chairperson over the past year; for the effort she has put in to make Ynys Mon u3a special. This is demonstrated by the regular attendance of so many members at the weekly meetings.

The Meeting closed at 11 am.
